Sporty Sandra gets
into the swing
If you’re ever looking for Sandra Morgan, there’s a good
chance you’ll find her on the golf course at least four
days a week.
On the other three days, look for her in the gym at Amber by
Living Gems’ newly opened Country Club.
Sandra, and husband Gary, moved into the resort in November
last year and are settling in nicely, though Gary is still very
much a ‘golf widow’. As he’s not much interested in golf, he’ll get
to join Sandra in the gym.
“I’ve always loved sports,” Sandra, 73, said. “Netball, hockey,
and squash have always been my main sports although I
stopped playing netball when I turned 60 and fell over. You
bruise a lot more when you’re older.
“When I was 68, I learned to play golf. I decided it was the best
sport for me as people aren’t running into you and you can go
at your own pace.
“We were living on Coochiemudlo Island at the time and the
ladies next door said they were going for a hit and a giggle, and I
thought I’d go along. I had about two lessons to show me how to
hit the ball.
“Now I play social and competition golf each week – winning
some and losing some. I love the fitness and the social aspect
of the game, as you can go out for lunch at the golf club, and
you meet lots of people.
“Living in an over-50s resort is great because it’s low-
maintenance living and there’s not much work to do, and I
can get out and play golf. It’s like living in the country here at
Amber.”
The Amber by Living Gems Country Club has lots to offer
residents seeking active, healthy lifestyles. The Country Club
features a snooker parlour and games room, gymnasium,
bocce court, bowling green, pickleball court, heated swimming
pool and spa, golf simulator, and a ten-pin bowling alley.
Amenities also include a resident bar, coffee lounge, cinema,
music room, library, and community garden.
